UK engineering network to showcase innovative airport security technology

The UK Engineering Council's Industry Affiliate Network is to showcase breakthrough airport security technology at its Innovation Exchange event in London on 9 October.
Technological advances in x-ray imaging developed by researchers at Keele University, UK, allow more detailed baggage surveillance by picking out specific elements which are obscured by traditional x-ray equipment. This could help to identify weapons or explosive equipment concealed inside other objects such as the heel of a shoe or a tube of toothpaste.
The new technology will be displayed alongside a variety of other engineering advances at the Innovation Exchange. The event, the second of its kind, aims to encourage the exploitation of engineering research by linking universities and research centres with the industrial and financial communities.
