Leading EU research organisations to host live webcast on life in space
The webcast, which will present the winners of the Research DG's 'Life in the universe' competition for school students, will take place live from CERN headquarters in Geneva on 10 November. The event is part of the European Science and Technology Week, which runs from 5 to 11 November 2001. It is being organised by the European space agency (ESA), the European southern observatory (ESO), and the European organisation for nuclear research (CERN) in cooperation with the European association for astronomy education (EAAE).
Students taking part in the 'Life in the universe' project, open to young people aged 14 to 18, are encouraged to present their views on extraterrestrial life as creatively as possible. Projects submitted so far include art work, theatrical performance and CD-ROMs.
Competitions are currently underway throughout Europe. Two winning teams from each country will be invited to a final event at CERN in Geneva from 8 to 10 November to present their projects to a panel of international experts.
