The achievements of the Fifth Framework programme's (FP5) 'Quality of life' programme and the outline of the new Sixth Framework programme are two of the topics to be discussed at the 'Life sciences in Europe: from FP5 towards a new framework programme' information day at the Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou, Paris on 5 November.

The head of the European Commission's life sciences unit, Etienne Magnien, will address the event, as will Leonidas Karapiperis, a special advisor to DG Research on centres and networks of excellence. As well as addressing progress in the Quality of life third key action, the 'cell factory' and its last set of calls, participants will hear about the role of life sciences in the next Framework programme and the tools of its implementation.
