Conference to examine role of gender in research

EU Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin will join research and education ministers from across Europe at the European Commission 'Gender and research' conference in Brussels on 8 and 9 November.
The conference will include presentations from the Helsinki Group, made up of Member State and associated country representatives, on a project which has established statistical indicators measuring the participation of women in science in Europe. The presentation will also give an overview of national policies to promote the role of women in science.
At the event, the Commission will present a progress report on the action plan 'Women and science: mobilising women to enrich European research' as well as proposed measures within the European research area (ERA) and the Sixth Framework programme (FP6).
Key representatives from all Member States as well as non EU countries will attend the conference, which will bring together more than 500 participants from 40 countries.
