The Committee of the Regions is holding a seminar on services in the knowledge economy in conjunction with the region of La Rioja in Spain on 9 November 2001.

The aftermath of the technology boom of recent years will be discussed at the event as well as the need for many service industries to adjust now that information technology has transformed the market.

The seminar is a follow up to the opinion of the committee on the European Commission's initiative 'internal market strategy for services'. The event will provide the Commission with an opportunity to get first hand information from local and regional players in the service sector.

Representatives of the European Commission, European Parliament, European Economic and social committee (ESC) will also attend the event, along with business representatives from major service industries. Participants will discuss possible European strategies to meet the challenges of the new economy and global competitiveness in the service industries.For further information, please consult the following web address:
