The first meeting of the European fish biofactory network will take place in Madrid, Spain on 16 November.

The partners involved are constructing a network of European laboratories interested in developing technology to genetically modify fish to manufacture pharmaceutical or industrial products.

As the required technologies are highly complex, work in this area involves the collaboration of as many laboratories as possible. The network is open to any research laboratory, public or private, that has interest in further developing ideas.

The main objectives of the network are to:
- develop community R&D (research and development) projects;
- promote a network of projects for the Sixth Framework programme (FP6)
- maintain a website as a platform for the exchange of ideas;
- present ideas to the rest of society;
- hold information meetings and workshops;
- create a forum to take account of R&D proposed by businesses.For further information on the network, please consult the following web address:
