Slovenia and JRC examine impact of EU enlargement
The conference will evaluate the results of the research project 'futures on enlargement', which was coordinated by the JRC as part of their 'futures' project. The study evaluated the consequences of enlargement from technology, science, education, economic and employment perspectives.
Slovenia intends to increase its competitiveness through strengthening its ability to control technological progress and sees the Sixth Framework programme (FP6) for research and development (R&D) as one of the ways of achieving this. Slovenia is planning to stimulate excellence and provide critical mass in specific fields, including biotechnology, information society technologies, new production systems and materials, food safety and health risks, human resources and sustainable development.
Slovenia has already performed well in the Fifth Framework programme (FP5). Recent statistics indicate that Slovenian small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) have been particularly active, coordinating 15 out of a possible 231 projects. When taking into account population and R&D expenditure in the Associated States, Slovenia also ranks first for exploratory awards in FP5.For further information, please consult the following web address:
