High level representatives from the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Spanish Government and the transport industry will gather in Valencia, Spain on 4 to 6 June to discuss 'Sustainable transport technologies for sustainable development'.

Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin will attend the event, as will the Spanish Minister of Science and Technology, Anna Birulés and Chairman of the European Parliament's Committee on industry, external trade, research and energy, Carlos Westerndorp y Cabeza.

Transport growth, heightened worldwide environmental sensitivity and rising energy costs characterise the new scientific, technical and environmental challenges for the transport industry. In order to achieve a sustainable transport system, one that supports economic growth whilst minimising environmental damage, these challenges must be addressed with clear visions for the future.

The event will address the technological and industrial development challenges facing the rail, road and maritime transport sectors in order to meet the goals of sustainable mobility. It will focus on developing a vision for the future and how this can be achieved in the context of European, national and industrial transport and research policies.

An exhibition supporting the conference will present an insight into possible future developments, with an emphasis on the added value of coordination in the European research area (ERA).For further information, please contact:
