Progress in empowering small businesses through the European Charter for Small Enterprises and achieving the Lisbon goal of making the EU the world's most competitive knowledge-based economy will be assessed at a conference on 'Small enterprises in our economy' in Brussels on 23 May 2002.

At the event, organised by the European Commission's Enterprise DG, Enterprise and Information Society Commissioner Erkki Liikanen and Enterprise Director General Fabio Colasanti will provide insights into the 2002 Competitiveness Report, which the Commission is expected to approve on 14 May.

Built around the results of EU benchmarking actions on key aspects of the business environment, the conference will bring together the Commission, national policy makers, entrepreneurs, business organisations and researchers.For further information, please consult the following web address:
