Commission marks end of ECSC Treaty
The Treaty establishing the ECSC was the first corner stone of the EU, and was signed in July 1952 by France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. The Community was administered by the High Authority, which over the years has transformed into the European Commission.
'The High Authority shall promote technical [...] research relating to the production and increased use of [...] steel and to occupational safety in the [...] steel industries. To this end it shall organise all appropriate contacts among existing research bodies,' states the ECSC Treaty. 'The results of research financed [...] shall be made available to all concerned in the Community,' it continues.
The main goals of the programme were to reduce production costs, improve quality, sustain steel outlets in its traditional markets, develop new products and markets, adapt and develop new production processes and to improve recycling capabilities in order to meet increasingly stringent environmental requirements.For further information on the conference, please contact:
