With the support of EU Research Commissioner Philippe Busquin, the University Foundation is organising an ethics forum with the title 'Free access to truth? Scientific publication in the Internet era', to be held in Brussels on 21 October.

Scientists worldwide have recently been advocating a shift from conventional printed journals to electronic publishing in the hope that this will increase the availability of scientific work while reducing the cost of accessing it.

The forum will ask whether this is realistic or indeed desirable. If the answer is affirmative, the forum will provide a platform for discussion on what individual scientists, professional organisations, academic libraries and institutions and public authorities can do to speed up this transition.

This event is the first in a series of ethical forums on various subjects of interest to the academic community which the University Foundation intends to organise on a regular basis.For further information, please consult the following web address:
