OECD conference to tackle infectious diseases
New diseases, the resurgence of diseases thought to be eradicated or contained, and the threat of deliberately spread infectious diseases are issues of global concern. The OECD hopes to promote international cooperation in order to detect, monitor and combat this threat using biotechnology and genetics.
Politicians, scientists, medical professionals and policy makers will gather to discuss ways to deliver the benefits of research, partnership, information exchange and production to minimise the risk of disease.
Delegates will also seek to identify ways in which existing resources can best be used to meet the danger, and will discuss methods to promote public/private partnerships for research and product development to ensure that production capacity for vaccines and medicines matches needs.
