An international conference entitled 'The role of science and of FP6 in the regional development' will be held in Koszalin on 17 December 2002.

The conference, organised by the Technical University of Koszalin, aims to encourage participation from the Polish region of Central Pomerania in the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6), and hopes to attract representatives of public authorities, companies and research teams from the region.

Speakers from the university will be joined by Mr Bogdan Rokosz, Counsellor at the Polish Mission to the EU in Brussels, a representative from the Polish State Committee for Research, Dr Andrzej Slawinski, FP6 National Contact Point, Warsaw, Dr Gerd Mutz, Director of the Munich Institute of Social Sciences, Germany and Mr Michal Olszewski, Polish State Committee for European Integration.

Themes for presentations and debate will include:
- Example of the leading EU-Region - Shannon Development, Ireland
- Regional policy in the knowledge-based economy
- Support for Poland's research and development policy from the EU Framework Programmes
- The role of the FP6 Contact Points - presentations of experiences and opportunities
