A meeting to finalise the composition of the wireless sensors and noisy devices (WISENODE) consortium will take place in Rome on January 23 and 24.

The event is open to all those interested in joining the consortium, which will submit a proposal for an integrated project under the communication, computing and software section of the information society technologies programme of the Sixth Framework Programme.

Networked microdevices are being developed rapidly and look set to become a key technology of the future. Such devices can be smaller than grains of sand, and deployed over small or wide areas.

Microdevice applications include environmental monitoring, house and building control, medical science and industrial process management.

The WISENODE project aims to develop a new generation of affordable microdevices that are able to operate efficiently in noisy environments, are mobile, and can draw on their ambient surroundings as a source of energy. The project will also aim to resolve a number of outstanding issues surrounding the technology.

In order to achieve its aims, the project hopes to draw on knowledge from different organisations, such as universities, research institutions and companies, and scientific areas, such as computer science, physics, mechanical engineering and mathematics. For further information, please consult the following web address:
