The Agronomical Research Centre (CRA) in Gembloux, Belgium is organising a scientific symposium on 12 March, to explore the benefits of geographical traceability for agricultural production.

With the globalisation of trade, consumers are increasingly interested in knowing more about the origins of their food and the way agricultural land is used. This is reflected in the demand for improved traceability from 'farm to plate.'

The event focuses on the EU funded GeoTraceAgri project, which is currently developing a methodology for the sampling, acquisition, utilisation and processing of georeferenced data that will be used to generate agro environmental indicators at various geographical scales.

Speakers at the event will present the key actors in geographical traceability from Europe and Canada and outline newly developed methods for obtaining geographical information.

GeoTraceAgri is an Information Society Technologies (IST) project, funded under the Fifth Framework Programme. It involves partners from five Member States and Canada and has a total budget of 3.39 million euro. For further information about this event, please contact:
