Euroscience proposes first pan-European scientific open forum

Euroscience, a pan-European association of some 1,500 research scientists, has announced its intention to host the first Euroscience open forum (ESOF) in Stockholm from 25 to 28 August 2004.
The event will be the first open forum for all the sciences, including social sciences and the humanities, ever held in Europe. Organisers expect to attract several thousand scientists, citizens and other interested parties to the event.
'Euroscience calls upon all the governments of [...] Europe and all international European agencies [...] to support the ESOF 2004 open forum and ensure its success as a necessary part of a common strategy towards the 'European Research Area',' said Euroscience President Jean-Patrick Connerade in a statement.
Mr Connerade hopes that the 2004 event will be the first of a series of open fora to be held every two years. The Stockholm forum will include debates, exhibitions, and cultural outreach activities as well as high-level scientific conferences showcasing European achievements in science.
Euroscience also aim to provide a platform for other European associations and organisations to organise events, in order to foster cooperation and promote the creation of a more collaborative spirit.
Calls for proposals for such events have already been sent to various organisations around Europe, and the closing date for the submission of proposals is 15 September.For further information, please consult the following web address:
