The region of Campania, along with the European Commission and the Italian ministries for economy and finance and innovation and technology, will host a seminar entitled 'information society as a tool for regional development' on 15 and 16 May in Salerno, Italy.

The event is designed as a follow up to the 2000 Lyon information society (IS) conference, and will focus on the importance of regional IS strategies for the socio-economic development of regions. The seminar will highlight the various strategies of Member States, examples of successfully implemented projects and measures, and partnerships created between European regions.

The three main topics for discussion during the seminar will be:
- IS as a tool for regional development;
- IS in support of education and training;
- IS and e-government.

The seminar is intended for managers of structural fund programmes, for persons in charge of IS measures within these programmes, and for all those interested in strengthening socio-economic development at regional level through the wider use of IS tools.For further information, please consult the following web address:
