Flanders VRC workshop: Preparing a technological business plan
In order to commercialize the results of research and technological development, it is necessary to write a business plan. Experience shows that much of the thinking in this area is done too late. Many research projects run for years before contact is made with commercial, production or marketing specialists.
The seminar is based on a booklet, "Preparing a Business Plan", edited by the European Commission. It is intended to help project leaders as well as senior research and technical personnel to present a convincing case to secure financing, internal or external, for the start-up or expansion of a business venture. It will help technical management to identify the fundamental questions and to obtain essential information. Above all, it will help participants to converse in the language of commercialization to non-technologists in order to sell their ideas and secure the necessary financial support.
A morning session will outline the need for business planning and the preparation work involved. The afternoon session will discuss the detailed compilation of the plan. All the necessary steps in this process will be demonstrated in a practical way using a case study.
The workshop is in English but questions from participants in Dutch, French and German will be answered in full.
