The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is to host a conference on the contribution of organised civil society to the Lisbon process in Brussels from 8 to 10 October.

Commission President Romano Prodi and European Parliament President Pat Cox will address the conference, which is intended to evaluate progress towards the Lisbon target of making Europe the world's most competitive economy by 2010. The event is also expected to result in practical proposals to the EU institutions on how to achieve the goals.

Investment in research and development is one of the measures outlined by the Commission for increasing competitiveness in Europe.For further information, please visit:
