The EU funded JANUS project is organising a workshop entitled 'the digital divide: opportunities and threats on the verge of EU enlargement', to take place on 23 January 2004 in Brussels, Belgium.

The event is the third in a series of workshops that address challenges for socio-economic research in the information society, and will bring together experts on the digital divide from EU research projects, and representatives from the European Commission and public authorities.

The workshop aims to:
- address the issue of a geographical digital divide between members and new members of the European Union;
- explore ways to influence the hard and soft factors leading to a digital divide;
- derive policy recommendations that help to bridge the digital divide.For further information, please consult the following web address:
