Conference on clean coal technology development

A conference on "Concerted clean coal technology development for sustainable all European development" will take place in Moscow on 24-27 May 1994.

The conference will be held in the context of the Commission's research into clean coal technology undertaken within the JOULE programme (the specific RTD programme in the field of non-nuclear energy, 1990-1994). In each of nine Sessions at the four-day conference, an EU speaker and a Russian speaker will present their respective views, followed by discussion. The following topics will be covered:

- Coal production and conversion in Russia;
- Coal preparation and handling;
- Modern conventional power station technology;
- Fluidized bed combustion;
- Operational problems in solid fuel combustion;
- Emission control concepts and experience;
- By-products from solid fuel use;
- Biomass use;
- Advanced coal use concepts;
- Industrial research into fuel conversion.

Two technical visits will take place:

- Chemistry of fuel conversion and emission control;
- Computer modelling workshop and demonstration.
