The VALUE Relay Centre at Bari, Italy, will hold a workshop on "Software quality between Research and Production" on 25 February 1994.

Software quality is a subject of lively debate in the software engineering research community. Methodologies, models and tools are being developed or are already available. However, the exploitation of such results is not yet adequate in industry, particularly among the small and medium-sized software enterprises.

The main objective of the Bari workshop is to present, to the software industries of Southern Italy, the state-of-the-art of EU research results on the topics of software metrics, software process assessment and improvement, and software system certification.

The point of view of industry in addressing software quality and software productivity will also be debated, with emphasis on the problems which may arise in the use of research results.

This workshop is the first step in a promotion of EU research results in the field of software quality being undertaken in Southern Italy by the VALUE Relay Centre IRIDE located at Tecnopolis Novus Ortus. It will examine the interests of managers of local software companies, concerning specific topics of software quality and particular RTD research results, and to organize special interest groups for subsequent in-depth investigation of these topics and results.
