A conference on modern biology and visions of humanity will take place in Genoa, Italy, on 22 and 23 March.

The event, organised by the European Group on Life Sciences, will bring together experts from a wide range of disciplines, including scientists, psychiatrists, philosophers, sociologists, politicians, journalists, writers and poets.

Focusing on the emergence of biotechnology as a new industrial sector, participants will seek to answer the question: 'what is the impact of new knowledge on individual human beings, society, and humanity's perception of itself and its destiny?' The consequences of new developments such as the mapping of the human genome cannot, after all, be restricted to the laboratory or the test tube.For further information, please consult the following web address:
