The Irish Presidency will host a conference on the information society entitled 'New opportunity for growth in an enlarged Europe' in Budapest, Hungary, on 26 and 27 February.

Ministers from the ten acceding countries, three candidate countries, EU Member States and the South-East European countries have been invited to participate alongside Commissioner for Enterprise and the Information Society Erkki Liikanen, and other representatives from international institutions, the private sector, academia and civil society.

High on the agenda will be an assessment of progress made in implementing the eEurope+ action plan in the candidate and acceding countries, the eEurope 2005 mid term review, and information society challenges facing Europe as a whole.

Specific challenges for policy makers to discuss include creating a favourable environment for private investment and job creation, boosting productivity, modernising public services and giving everyone the opportunity to participate in the global information society.For further information, please consult the following web address:
