A conference on radioactive waste management, organised by the European Commission, will take place in Luxembourg from 29 March until 1 April.

While nuclear energy currently provides about 35 per cent of the European Union's electrical needs, the management of radioactive waste from the nuclear fuel cycle remains a key issue for the continued and future use of nuclear power.

The Euradwaste conference will address:
- European Commission policy
The proposed directive on spent nuclear fuel and radioactive waste, related research policy, setting-up of Joint Undertakings and networks for coordinating and integrating research activities
- Socio-political aspects
Governance and decision making, public perception and acceptance, stakeholder involvement, sustainability issues
- The Fifth Framework Programme (FP5)
Repository and geological barrier performance, repository development, large scale experiments in underground research laboratories, developments in partitioning and transmutation, waste characterisation and corrosion studies.For further information, please visit:
