Dutch Presidency conference: 'Brain gain: the instruments'

Within the scope of the forthcoming Dutch EU Presidency, and with the support of the Commission, an international conference entitled 'Brain gain: the instruments' will take place in The Hague, the Netherlands, on 29 and 30 September.

Analysis suggests that if Europe is to meet its competitiveness goals, it will need an additional 700,000 researchers by 2010. Its own tertiary education systems will not deliver them all, therefore making Europe attractive to international partners in academia, science, applied science and industry is a necessity.

This conference is aimed at high-level administrators and policy makers working within governmental, research and higher education institutions in Europe and beyond, including:
- national and EU policy makers in the fields of research, higher education and development;
- organisations fostering international cooperation;
- trade unions;
- employers organisations;
- cultural organisations;
- political parties.

Keynote speakers at the event will include the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Laurens Jan Brinkhorst, the Dutch Minister for Education Culture and Science, Maria van der Hoeven, and the Commission's Director-General for Research, Achilleas Mitsos.For further information, please consult the following web address:
