The International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), and the Mediterranean Consortium are organising an international geological congress, to be held in Florence, Italy, from 20 to 28 August.

The congress has been designed to set up a forum for a broad debate of the most significant advances in the geological sciences, as well as to promote discussion of the congress theme: 'from the Mediterranean area toward a global geological renaissance - geology, natural hazards, and cultural heritage.'

Among the subjects covered are geological hazards, geo-resources and cultural heritage, the relationship between fundamental and applied geosciences, understanding the earth, promoting international scientific cooperation and the role of geology in solving environmental problems.For more information, please visit:
