With the support of the European Commission, the French institut de recherche pour le dévelopment is organising an international seminar on the management of shared Mediterranean heritage in Alexandria, Egypt, from 29 to 31 March 2005.

The seminar will address a series of topical issues relevant to researchers, strategic planners and architects, and national and international policy makers from the two sides of the Mediterranean basin, with the aim of:
- presenting, debating, disseminating and exchanging experiences about the management of nineteenth and early twentieth century heritage 'in the making';
- agreeing the concept of a shared Mediterranean heritage related to a common civilisation and shared history;
- developing a strategic vision for the future, enhancing international awareness and fostering global networking;
- promoting the potential of sites and buildings of heritage and their role in endorsing urban tourism.

Themes for the event include: new technologies and techniques, information technology in documenting heritage, and urban heritage and sustainable development.For further information, please consult the following web address:
