A workshop on slimhole drilling and coring system
This is one of a series of workshops, designed to support innovative new technologies in the hydrocarbons sector, undertaken by the European Commission as part of the THERMIE programme for the promotion of new energy technologies.
The preliminary research by DBS and Forsol resulted in the design and testing of equipment for a complete slimhole drilling system and allowed the specifications to be finalized for the new surface rig dedicated to slimhole drilling. The site surface required by this rig is small (50m2): in addition to being powerful the rig is also able to control and accurately monitor the drilling parameters. The apparatus is easily transportable and the ecological aspects of its operation have also been taken into account with advanced soundproofing and waste disposal systems. The new slimhole technology will be tested initially in the Paris Basin on two wells, after which it will be used in the Gabon: a more difficult terrain in terms of geological formation.
This workshop provides an opportunity to examine slimhole technology in practice and will include a site visit and a number of presentations.
