One of the strategic objective of the THERMIE programme is to promote and increase awareness of energy technologies. In this context, a workshop entitled "Technological Advances towards Low-loss Power Distribution" will be held in Athens on 16 May 1994.

There are a number of current issues associated with power distribution transformers which this workshop will address, including:

- Promotion of energy saving through optimization of transformer losses;
- Promotion of ecologically friendly transformers through improved designed materials and designs;
- Providing European manufactures with an opportunity to establish contacts with representatives from central and Eastern Europe;
- Improving the exchange of ideas and experience.

Speakers will be drawn from within the industry and will have extensive experience of technologies for improving the efficiency of transformers. Presentations will focus on both technical and financial aspects and will include operational experience.
