A one-day seminar on Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) will take place on 12 April 1994 at Inverness, Scotland. The seminar is designed to help Highland companies to understand more about Electronic Data Interchange and will assist them in preparing for it's introduction and increased use in the European Union.

EDI, or electronic trading as it is sometimes known, is the exchange of information between one organization's computer and another using standard formats. EDI is currently being used in many industrial and commercial sectors to transfer and store data in electronic form.

The seminar is being supported by 'Eurospredi' which is a project supported by TEDIS (Community programme for the establishment of trade electronic data interchange systems (1991-1994)) The project's objective is to raise awareness of EDI amongst SMEs in rural areas and to provide basic education to companies interested in implementing EDI, particularly those interested in cross-border trading. The project consortium is made up of organisations from Norway, Austria, Denmark, Germany, Scotland and Spain.
