A colloquium on State aid for innovation will take place in Brussels, Belgium, on 17 November.

Organised by the European Commission, and in line with the ongoing debate on measures to boost innovation, the colloquium will tackle the following issues:
- Globalisation, competitiveness and innovation: Which role for public intervention? Is State aid the miracle cure?
- University-enterprise partnerships. How to encourage these partnerships?
- SMEs and innovation: what role? Do they have specific problems? Do they need specific support?
- Poles of excellence and innovation centres: miracle cure for European innovation? Which problems? And which remedies?

The opening speech will be delivered by Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes. Lord Sainsbury of Turville, UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Science and Innovation, will present the position of the UK Presidency on these questions.For further information, please visit:
