Belgium

A European workshop on chemical sensors for metallurgical processes is being organized in Brussels by the Flemish VALUE Relay Centre on 8 December 1994. The two-day event will include a science and technology day on 8 December 1994 and a technology transfer day on 9 December 1994.

The science and technology day will introduce the basic concepts of sensing devises and materials and will present the latest developments in this area. It will identify the potential needs of the metallurgical sector for liquid-metal sensors as well as for gas sensors. The topics to be covered include:
- Optical sensing of gas at high temperature;
- Solid state electrochemical gas sensors;
- Quality and composition control in metallurgical industries;
- On-line sensing of molten melting.

The technology transfer day is designed to:
- Promote the dissemination and application of sensor and related technology for metallurgical processes;
- Stimulate cooperation between businesses, SMEs and public research institutes and universities;
- Provide specific information on venture capital, the BRITE/EURAM and VALUE programmes;
- Improve communication and awareness between industry and research groups.
