Conference on "Scientific expertise in European public policy"
The conference aims to examine the role of scientific expertise in public policy debates across Europe, its relationships within different political and administrative decision-making processes and the implications for problematic transboundary and global issues.
The conference will examine the following issues:
- Decision-making at a European level: What are its implications? Does the complexity of this process produce a special role for scientific experts?
- The influence of administrative and political cultures: How is scientific expertise conceived and used in different European countries? What is the effect of different relationships between science, the economy and society?
- The European style of using scientific expertise: In what ways does this differ from other parts of the world?.
- The geographical dimension: How can transboundary issues best be resolved? What are the global implications of European policy making?
