A series of Euro-South East Asia information and communications (ICT) networking and business events will take place from 11 to 14 September in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The first event, which takes place 11-13 September, aims to bring together South East Asian and European researchers from academia and industry in order to establish new partnerships and promote opportunities for joint research initiatives. The event will focus on ICT priority areas identified in the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), as well as the national and regional priorities of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN).

A second event, on 14 September, will focus on:
- business benefits of research investment and collaboration in the ICT sector;
- business practices and paradigms and business excellence in Information Society Technologies (IST) in Europe and South East Asia;
- EC-Indonesia Business collaboration in the ICT sector: seizing opportunities and tackling challenges;
- opportunities for business collaboration within FP7;
- exchange of ideas and views and laying a foundation for discussion about future research projects around themes like the offshoring and outsourcing of research, development, and other issues regarding competitive advantage.

The overall goal of the conference series is to facilitate bi-regional research cooperation and a successful exploitation of research results; to stimulate the industrial take-up of research results, especially by small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs); and to increase the number of joint research projects in the framework of the forthcoming FP7.

The events are organised by ENGAGE, a project funded under the IST section of FP6 to enhance research cooperation in the field between the EU and four countries of South East Asia: Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and the Philippines.To register or participate in ENGAGE Indonesia 2006 as a speaker, please visit: http://www.jakarta2006.engage-ist.org(opens in new window)
