A conference on cutting edge genomics for sustainable animal breeding will take place on 12 and 13 September in Edinburgh, UK.

The event will present the activities of SABRE, a four-year project funded under the Sixth Framework Programme (FP6), which aims to develop a range of new breeding strategies to improve animal health and welfare. The overall objective is to reduce chemical and energy inputs; minimise livestock waste and pollution; and maximise food safety and quality.

Participants will be informed of how to get involved in the project. They will also be brought up to speed on the current state-of-the-art and the potential effect on sustainability of scientific progress. Specifically, the event will address the following themes:
- understanding the role of epigenetics in livestock traits;
- gut health and zoonoses;
- milk production traits and the mammary gland;
