A conference on future research and competitiveness aspects of the European food industry will take place on 17 and 18 April in Brussels, Belgium.

Organised by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research, the event will be a chance to debate policy and industry developments, and to discuss research. EU Commissioner for Science and Research Janez Potocnik and Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Mariann Fischer-Boel will participate in the debate.

The conference will be divided into four main sessions:
- trends and outlook in world economics, culture and food;
- drivers of food demand and of the market today and tomorrow;
- new technologies for food production;
