A conference entitled Biotechnology in European Society will take place on 21-22 November 1994 in the Hague, the Netherlands.

The conference is intended to stimulate public debate and understanding of biotechnology as a key force in modern life. The meeting will focus on the public perception of biotechnology and the factors which influence it. The contribution of industry, research and regulatory authorities to this area will also be examined.

The conference is being supported by the European Commission. Dr. Bruno Hansen of DG XII will address the conference during the Plenary session entitled "Public perception and the factors influencing it".
