The 14th congress on alternatives to animal testing will be held in Linz, Austria from 28 to 30 September.

Topics which will be covered at the event include:
- EU and national efforts to implement the 3R principles (refinement, reduction, replacement) into academic and industrial (including the cosmetics industry) research;
- legal and ethical aspects arising from efforts to standardise and harmonise in-vitro approaches;
- the development of the guidelines on European chemicals and cosmetics policy in context with the use of alternatives principles;
- the revision of the EU Directive 86/609, which affects all scientists, companies and governmental authorities which act in the field of animal testing and alternatives to animal testing;
- new technologies and methods expanding the repertoire of 3R related experimental approaches.
