A pilot training course on occupational radiation protection: specificities of waste management and decommissioning will be held in Karlsruhe, Germany, on 10 to 14 December.

The course is designed for radiation protection professionals such as experts (RPE), officers (RPO), and radiation protection workers who wish to improve and update their knowledge in radiation protection with regard to waste management, decommissioning, and transport of radioactive materials. The training is part of the newly developed European Radiation Protection Course (ERPC), meeting the training needs of the European RPEs.

The course will cover:
- Waste management, waste classification, preparation and conditioning;
- Radiation protection planning and organisation for decommissioning, strategies and techniques;
- Ventilation and filtration, air sampling and emission control;
- Safe handling, equipment and protective clothing, release of materials and clearance of buildings;
- European regulations (ADR) for transport of radioactive materials, classification, signalisation and documentation.

The course consists of lectures, laboratory exercises, case studies, and visits of facilities under decommissioning and waste management and storage facilities. The course was developed by the EU-funded ENETRAP project.For more information, please contact Sibylle Mann.
