The German Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) will be holding a conference on 'EuMon - monitoring and biodiversity' from 28 to 30 January in Leipzig, Germany.

The major issues to be addressed during the conference are:
- where are the gaps in biodiversity monitoring?
- biodiversity monitoring, needs and duties of governments and the public;
- advantages and problems of multinational monitoring schemes;
- volunteer involvement in biodiversity monitoring;
- what types of education are needed to encourage the public's interest in biodiversity and monitoring?

The EuMon-Project was launched to develop a framework coordinating monitoring efforts and data across Europe. This conference will mark the end of the project.

The conference, which also includes a number of workshops, addresses members and representatives of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and nature conservation agencies, as well as scientists and policy makers.For further information, please visit:
