The Mediterranean school on mesoscale meteorology (MSMM) will be held in Alghero, Italy, from 26 to 30 May.

The purpose of the MSMM is to acquaint students and young scientists with a broad range of topics classified as mesoscale meteorology, and to introduce recent advances on regional scale weather systems to people involved in operational weather forecast.

This third edition of the school is devoted to probabilistic weather forecasts, with a particular focus on ensemble prediction systems. Since their early applications in the 1990s, probabilistic forecasts based on an ensemble of numerical models (EPS) have been applied to a wide range of scales, from global to mesoscale and from seasonal to short range forecast times.

During the course, the theoretical fundamentals underlying the EPS and related issues on predictability will be revised and analysed. The most important applications will also be explored, and the rational for their existence examined. The operational application of EPS is considered with specific attention to regional and mesoscale forecasting problems.For more information, please visit:
