The European Commission will hold a conference on the governance and ethics of nanotechnology on 7 and 8 May in Brussels, Belgium.

The code of conduct covers issues such as sustainability, precaution, inclusiveness and accountability. It invites the EU Member States to take concrete action, involving universities, research institutes and companies, for the save development and use of nanotechnologies.

Following an opening session on the need for a code of conduct and the potential of nanotechnologies, individual sessions will address: research views on how to implement the code; how to materialise the code; the internationalisation of the Commission¿s Recommendation on the code of conduct; and new research projects.

The conference will consist of speeches by Commission experts and roundtables, addressing the recently adopted code of conduct for responsible research in nanosciences and nanotechnologies as well as the potential of nanotechnologies. In addition, there will be presentations on EU-funded projects in the field.
