A conference entitled 'Reforming the European State System in the Long Eighteenth Century' will take place in Vadstena, Sweden, from 10 to 14 September.

Organised by the European Science Foundation (ESF) in partnership with Linköping University, the conference will address the longstanding debate on 'small states' and European integration and answers questions about the politics of globalisation.

Drawing on a historical-political background that reaches deep into the eighteenth century, speakers will seek to revive traditional perceptions in order to better understand the challenges of present-day European foreign policy and economic development.

Sessions will address the following topics:
- Small states and empires in the long eighteenth century;
- Nordic political economy and the future of Europe;
- Justice, law and war and the idea of a "Jus publicum europaeum";
- Vattel and the foundations of international law
- The rise of modern diplomacy 1714-1814.For more information, please visit:
