Summer school on ethics of nanotechnology, Enschede, the Netherlands
Beside an introduction to the main ethical theories and practical exercises, the event revolves around the debate on responsible nanotechnology development, as stimulated by the European Commission's code of conduct for responsible nano-research and other initiatives. Four themes are on the agenda:
- the ethics of bionanotechnology;
- the ethics of nanoelectronics/ambient intelligence;
- military and dual use/peaceful use/global issues of nanotechnology;
- religious and cultural aspects, ethical traditions and relativism in the debate about nanoethics.
The summer school is open to researchers (PhD students, postdocs and others) from a wide variety of natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities backgrounds. Prior training in ethics is not required. However, participants are expected to prepare short contributions to the discussions of each of the four themes.For further information, please click:
