The European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Technical Development (DG RTD) will hold a scientific meeting on the paediatric use of off-patent medicinal products on 5 September in Warsaw, Poland.

With a view to a related Call for Proposals under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) to go live on 3 September, the meeting will cover three main topics:
- the Paediatric Medicines Regulation;
- 'Off-Patent Medicines for Children' - the FP7 topic : how to apply, results from the most recent Call for Proposals;
- paediatric networking : getting started.

Most medicines used to treat children in Europe today have not been tested and are not authorised for use in children. As a result, children's health and therefore quality of life may suffer. With this in mind, including this topic under FP7 will offer financial support to consortia carrying out studies dedicated to providing evidence for specific paediatric use of off-patent medicinal products currently used off-label.

The Commission wishes to encourage the participation of paediatric and neonatal researchers from the new EU Member States in this topic in the forthcoming Call for Proposals. Financial support (travel expenses) is foreseen for participants from these countries on a 'first-come-first served' basis.For further information, please visit:
