A Local governments' day will take place on 9 September in Vienna, Austria. The one-day event will explore how local and regional governments can face current challenges and developments related to the organisation of water services. It will also aim to assess the means they have to adapt and to provide good sustainable water-management services to citizens.

The event will bring together government representatives from inside and outside Europe as well as speakers from international and European organisations, experts and representatives of the industry. Three sessions will be dedicated to the following issues.
- Are local and regional governments' legal, financial and organisational instruments sufficient to ensure high-quality water management to all citizens at an affordable price?
- What is the impact of urbanisation, increasing economic growth and fast-growing cities on the provision of water services?
- Climate change and its challenges: how to adapt and prepare at local and regional level.

The local governments' day is co-organised by the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), United Cities and Local Government (CGLU), the International Water Association (IWA) and the International Association of Waterworks in the Danube Catchment Area (IWAD) as part of the IWA World Water Congress (which runs from 7 to 12 September). For further information, please click:
