The research project WORKS (' Work organisation restructuring in the knowledge society') will hold a conference entitled 'Fragmentation? The future of work in Europe in a global economy' on 8 and 9 October in Rome, Italy.

Over the last three years, the project analysed changes to organisational structures, work processes, skill requirements and occupational identities resulting from the combined impact of globalisation and technological innovation. They investigated the forces that bring about these changes, as well as the challenges they pose to workers and their families, companies, trade unions and policy-makers at different levels. The results of this work will be presented and subjected to the scrutiny of European policy-makers and experts at the conference.

The core topics to be covered are the following:
- 'Work in Europe in the 21st Century. Current trends and policy challenges';
- 'Global value chain restructuring and organisational change';
- 'The impact on workers. Wellbeing, autonomy and representation';
- 'Flexibility and work-life balance';
- 'Changing career patterns, risks and opportunities for women and men';
- 'Changes in the workplace - in technologies, in skill requirements and in working conditions';
- 'Changes at the regional and national level. New paths for Europe?'
- 'The future of work in Europe in a global economy: what are the policy choices?'For further information, please visit:
