The ASLO Aquatic Sciences Meeting 2009 will be held in Nice, France, from 25 to 30 January 2009.

Taking a broad approach, the organisers will not focus on a specific theme, but instead offer a variety of plenary, topical and general sessions.

On a daily basis, a new 'topic of the day' will be discussed by two speakers with either controversial or complementary viewpoints in order to solicit a lively discussion among the session participants. Keynote speeches will be dedicated to the following topics:
- 'Will the open ocean become more or less stratified? Implications for organisms and biogeochemical cycles';
- 'Future water shortages and sustainable water management: their implications for (aquatic) ecosystems, agriculture and human society';
- 'Should the freshwater carbon cycle remain hidden in the global C cycle?';
- 'Is there a link between biodiversity and ecosystem function in aquatic systems?';
- 'Can geo(bio)engineering of aquatic systems (iron addition and deep-water pumping) alleviate future climate change?'.For further information, please visit:
