An international conference on competence research centre programmes and policies will take place on 3 February 2009 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The conference is organised by the EU-funded European Research Area Network COMPERA ('ERA-NET on national and regional programmes and initiatives dedicated to the creation and support of Competence Research Centres').

Aimed at programme managers and policy makers in the field of competence research centres (CRCs), event topics will include:
- establishment of CRC programmes: Based on the experiences of the COMPERA project and the outcomes of the working group on industry-led CRCs of the Scientific and Technical Research Committee of the European Union (CREST), preconditions and factors of success will be presented as good practices.
- management of CRC programmes: The success of CRC programmes largely depends on the management strategies that are applied by both governing and funding bodies. The conference will highlight issues such as 'selection of CRC proposals based on expected spill-over effects', 'management of second generation CRC programmes' and 'international cooperation among CRCs'.
- future of CRCs in Europe: What is the future role of CRCs in the European Research Area (ERA)? What will be future trends of CRC-related programmes? Will CRCs be influenced by current trends outside the ERA, e.g. the USA or emerging countries such as China or India? For further information, please visit:
